Not long ago did i start to watch a few episodes of Enge Brahmanan ( where is the Brahmin?), i searched the internet and watched all the past episodes of this serial which is telecast everyday on Jaya TV, evening 8 pm. Its season 2 now.

The story is very realistic. It has been adapted from a book ofcourse written by "Cho" himself. It shows how difficult it is to lead the life of a Brahmin as described in the Sastras.

The Story revolves around Nathan's Family (Delhi Kumar) who is torn between the material world and his only son Ashok (Afsar) who is exploring whole heartedly the metaphysical world. The inbetween explations by "Cho" is really an eyopener as he explains with references from the holy Hindu texts.

The actors have done a wonderful job by raising the platform into a different level, special metion on the lead Actor Afsar who has done a awesome job.

Enge Brahmanan is a realistic search and a class apart in the small screen dominated by soap operas and TRP aimed reality shows.

Kudos to the great team!

Kannu podi comes just the next day after the pongal and is celebrated by some sects of the tamil community. The girls pray for their brothers during this festive. It generally happens at the girls mothers place.

The elderly women in the house applies the fresh turmeric (pasum manjal) as nelangu to all the girls in the house before the bath.

There are four types of colored rice which are done for this day. The chakkarapongal from the previous day is used. The others are curd rice, yellow rice ( mixed from turmeric) and the red rice ( mixed using turmeric + limestone or substituted by mixing with kumkum).

Then facing the east, the leaves of the fresh turmeric are used as the plates. These are placed on a rangoli which is made of rice flour.  First betel nut, banana and piece of sugarcane is placed on one end of the leaf.

Each girl takes a ball of the rice and recites " Kakka podi vechen Kannu podi vechen Kaakum, Kurivikkum kalyanam. Kurivikellam Seemantham " and places the rice as small balls on the leaf. Same goes for each colored rice. The order is Chakkara pongal, yellow rice, white rice, red rice.

She prays for the well being of her brother. Then there is camphor aarti . Each girl is given a bit of sugarcane.  Also during this time the brothers gift their sisters.

Hope i tried to explain to the best!
